The PLANET EARTH II Trailer Is Here and the Visuals Will Take Your Breath Away

All hail sweet Lady Gaia! We now have our first glimpse at the new Planet Earth II series that’s set to air on BBC One sometime this fall, and it is absolutely stunning. The first trailer features all of the classic characters we loved from the 2006 Planet Earth series, including giraffes, lions, monkeys, glowing cave fungi, and that most rare of beasts: narrator Sir David Attenborough. Oh, and this time around (according to Gizmodo Australia) the series is going to be broadcast in 4k!

The trailer, which comes via Vulture, shows off the splendors of Earth and Mother Nature just as the first series did 10 years ago. And if you haven’t seen the original Planet Earth series, which was also narrated by Attenborough—as well as Sigourney Weaver in the U.S., ’cause who knows when a Xenomorph is gonna pop up and eat a Meerkat or something—then you’re in for one incredible visual treat.

Although we don’t know of the exact release date yet, we do know that the series is going to be split up into six one-hour parts that will be narrated by Attenborough—who’s not only a master naturalist, but also has a sweet research vessel named after him (R.I.P. Boaty McBoatface). As mentioned, the series has also been shot in 4k, which means we may need to put towels down on the floor ’cause we are going to be drooling over how pretty the footage is. This move to 4k makes sense, as the first Planet Earth series was shot in HD and not only helped to push high-definition as a popular format, but also make animals eating each other look freaking fantastic.

What do you think about this glimpse at Planet Earth II? Are you thrilled to hear that the series is in 4k? Are you ready for a Planet Mars series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
