THE ORIGINALS Boss Teases Cami’s Fate, Klaus’ Anger, and ‘More Casualties’

The Originals really knows how to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

All throughout the holidays, viewers were left wondering just what the heck this show is going to look like in the wake of the midseason finale. The final moments saw a kiss “Klamille” ‘shippers had been waiting years for, only to be followed by Klaus (Joseph Morgan) awakening from a post-kiss nap-and-cuddle-session with Cami (Leah Pipes) to find her dead, throat slit wide open. How did this happen? What happens next? Is Cami really dead?!

“In the moments at the end of episode nine, when you see Klaus holding this woman in his arms and her throat is cut open and she’s bleeding everywhere, he is about as angry as we’ve ever seen him,” executive producer Michael Narducci says. “He’s the one who kills people’s loved ones. He’s the one who destroys his enemies and tears them apart and ruins their lives. Now, someone has done that to him. And in a sense, it’s his fault.”

Now before you go grabbing your pitchforks and torches and assembling a mob to take out Narducci for saying that when clearly Aurora (Rebecca Breeds) had something to do with Cami’s death, just hear him out.

The Originals

“Cami was targeted because she was close to Klaus,” Narducci says. “There’s a certain element of rage, a certain element of guilt that he must feel. That could be when Klaus is at his most dangerous, when he wants revenge and he wants to take people down for what they’ve done to him. We’ll see a little bit of that going forward: Klaus off balance, not sure who he can trust, and very angry. Before long, that’s going to result in the kind of alliance-building for Klaus that we’ve wanted to see for a while.”

Yes, this whole traumatic ordeal with Cami could actually be good for Klaus in the long run. (Wait, wait, wait, don’t pick up those pitchforks and torches again!)

“In addition to being paranoid and neurotic, that’s going to reach its zenith and then we’re going to start to see him have to mend bridges with people he’s fallen out with,” Narducci says. “The big one on that list is Hayley [Phoebe Tonkin]. At the end of season two, he participated in Hayley being cursed and turned into a wolf. She spent six months away from her daughter. And it feels like, ultimately, in order for this family to heal, Klaus has to heal his wounds with Elijah [Daniel Gillies], and he’s got to heal his wounds with Hayley. That’s something we’re going to play with going forward.”

While I have can’t reveal what I already know about Cami’s fate (#humblebrag), I can say that viewers will get to see the missing moments in between when Cami woke up with that weird look on her face and when Klaus woke up to find her with her throat slit on the bed. You will get the full story of what happened to Cami immediately. And it’s even more tragic than you think.

The Originals

In addition to all that, Narducci is excited for viewers to see how the jam-packed and emotional episode, “A Ghost Along the Mississippi,” closes the chapter of the first half of the season and opens a new one in its new night and time.

“It’s the transition into the end of the first chapter, the arrival of these three sired vampires in town,” Narducci says. “They have executed their plot against the Mikaelson family. There’s been a serious casualty. And before long, there will be more casualties.”

Yeah, prepare yourselves, The Originals fans: in addition to Cami’s situation, there will be another major death in the hour. And that’s going to motivate everyone moving forward… although maybe not in the directions everyone will be expecting.

“There will be a game-changing shift in who our enemies are and, starting with the next episode, what their plan is. And how things are going to escalate very quickly in terms of who is going to be siding with whom against the Originals,” Narducci says. “Our family, who started off this season very much at odds, is now backed into a corner together against this new threat. Some of the people we thought were our allies and our friends might not necessarily be thus.”
