THE ORIGINALS Battle ‘Sins of the Past’ in New Season 3 Poster

When you live for thousands of years, you’re bound to make a few enemies. When you terrorize literally anyone and anything that comes into contact with you for those thousands of years, it would be actually more of a surprise if you made any friends or loved ones at all during your time on this earth.

But surprisingly, Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) has managed to do just that on The Originals. Over the course of two seasons, he brought his family back together again after running from their parents for centuries, and even brought a new child into the world after his one-night stand with Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). Sure, he managed to piss off all of his family and friends in one fell swoop at the end of season two, but you can’t deny that Klaus has created a community of allies in New Orleans.

And he’s going to need all the help he can get when The Vampire Diaries‘ spinoff series returns for season three. The CW just released the key art for the new season, and the dark poster has an ominous tagline: “Sins of the past will hunt them.”

Check out the new poster below:

The Originals

After surviving being hunted all over the world by their maniacal parents, this season the Mikaelson siblings will find themselves instead being targeted by their “children,” the first vampires they ever created. The Trinity, a.k.a. the first vampire Klaus ever sired, the first vampire Elijah (Daniel Gillies) ever sired, and the first vampire Rebekah (Claire Holt/Maisie Richardson-Sellers) ever sired are coming to New Orleans to confront their “parents” over a sire line war that’s brewing. But since the Mikaelsons are as fractured as they’ve ever been, this sire line war could not come at a worse time.

And where will Hayley, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), Davina (Danielle Campbell) and Cami (Leah Pipes) ally themselves? Should we be reading into the placement of the characters on the poster? Or are they going to stay as far away from the sire line war as possible? If they were smart, that’s what they’d do.

The Originals season three premieres Thursday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. on The CW. What do you think of the new poster? Hit the comments section below with your thoughts now!
