The Next Step in Selfie Evolution is Lily, The Adorable Drone That Follows You Around

Let’s face it, drones don’t have the best PR. My perception of them is somewhere between killing machine and glorified hobby store plane. But I don’t feel that way about Lily, an adorable drone (if there can be such a thing) that could change the selfie game forever.

The Lily camera is a quadcopter drone that can follow you around based on a tracking device you wear on your wrist, shooting 1080P, 60FPS video (even in 720P slo-mo) all the while. There’s apparently no set-up required. Lily is outfitted with accelerometers that detect when she’s in free-fall, so she will start recording if you simply toss her into the air. The drone is water-proof too — throw it into the water and it will start up and start filming.

The tracking device on your wrist also functions as a microphone, which Lily automatically syncs with the footage she records. She can fly at 25 mph anywhere from 5 to 100 feet above you, at a number of different angles depending on what the accompanying iOS and Android app (or tracking device) dictates.

Lily will start shipping February 2016, and you can pre-order now for $499.

If all that read like an advertisement, that’s only because I am legitimately excited about this little machine. It looks great, is user-friendly, and allows just about anyone to get into the drone game. Lily has seemingly found the happy medium between “killer robot” and hobby store geekery. I don’t know about you, but I want one.
