The New Trailer for BASKIN Will Send You to Hell (Exclusive)

Editor’s note: This trailer contains content that may not be suitable for all viewers. Watch at your own discretion.

So, are you one of those horror fans who’s been complaining about “arty” horror movies lately? Upset that Hollywood won’t show more gore, are we? Well, trust me when I say your time has come. Baskin is a journey into evil, blood-and-grime-soaked depravity that is aimed at only the sturdiest stomachs and the most bloodthirsty beholders. And if you haven’t had a chance to take this journey into eye-assaulting madness on the horror festival circuit, we have just a taste of the IFC Midnight release coming this March.

“Baskin” is Turkish for “police raid,” but the generic title belies just where the story is going. Initially, it plays like wanna-be Tarantino, as four veteran cops and their new rookie partner shoot the breeze about sexual experiences, at a slightly spooky diner. But once they are called to the raid in question, despite many portents and signs that they are about to be involved in something really bad, they decide to go anyway. What follows is not unlike what you might see if Clive Barker were allowed to consult on a Japanese horror video game. Only more realistic.

You don’t take somebody to this movie on a slightly thrilling date. You take people to test their limits. And while I’d normally warn against potential spoilers in a trailer like this, it’s fair to give viewers a taste of what they’re actually in for.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“A five-man unit of cops on night patrol get more than they bargain for when they arrive at a creepy backwater town in the middle of nowhere after a call comes over the radio for backup. Entering a derelict building, the seasoned tough guys and their rookie junior, who’s still haunted by a traumatic childhood dream, do the one thing you should never do in this kind of movie: they split up. They soon realize they’ve stumbled into a monstrous charnel house and descend into an ever-more nightmarish netherworld where grotesque, mind-wrenching horrors await them at every turn. This is one Baskin (that’s “police raid” to you non-Turkish speakers) that isn’t going to end well. But wait! Things aren’t what they seem in this truly disturbing, outrageously gory, and increasingly surreal film whose unpredictable narrative pulls the carpet from under your feet and keeps you guessing right up to the final moment. A wildly original whatsit that reconfirms Turkey as the breakout national cinema of the moment.”

Baskin hits select theaters and VOD platforms on March 25, 2016.
