What does it take to be a monster, badass, no-guff-taking action star? Is it the muscles? Is it the fighting prowess? Is it the ability to walk slowly away from an exploding building without looking behind you, or to pull a tough expression and not blink while firing an automatic weapon? If you answered “All of the above” then you… are able to answer questions correctly. It still takes a lot more than knowing what makes up an action star to actually be an action star, guys. It takes TOUGHNESS. It takes ACTUAL PHYSICAL ABILITY! It takes riding that thin line between epic and lame that only one in 300 of us can achieve. Do you have what it takes?!?!?! Could you be as cool as Gerard Butler in the new film London Has Fallen?
It’s a battle of the silly when our own eponymous cave-dweller Dan Casey tries to prove his action star mettle against Nerdist News’ bad mammajamma Jessica Chobot. In a version of the song “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better” (except without music and with live ammunition), each half of this pair aims to outdo the other in feats including as punching stunt performers, firing guns and throwing explosives behind people, driving around really fast and without much regard for the safety of the surrounding roads, and jumping off of a really high thing. That’s an action movie. You literally need nothing else.
London Has Fallen finds Butler returning as Mike Banning, the Secret Serviceman who saved President Asher (Aaron Eckhart) from terrorist attacks in the first movie. While escorting Asher to London for the British Prime Minister’s funeral, Banning discovers a massive plot to assassinate all of the world’s leaders. That’s a pretty bad thing, I think you’ll agree, and so Banning has to run around London and shoot bad guys. Could you ask for much more? Maybe Jess or Dan could apply to be in the third film, Poughkeepsie Has Fallen.
