Happy Friday everyone! If there had been one more workday this week I honestly would have pooped from sheer distemper. So this week Iâve been doing a lot of reading, which means that I have been primarily listening to wordless IDM. After exhausting every Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada track in my iTunes, I consulted my electronica-junkie friend and he turned me onto Tycho, a San Francisco-based producer who makes very gauzey mellowtronica.
âHoursâ is a six-minute foray into a post-apocalyptic serenity. The chronic hum and glowy synths give the track a haunted house aesthetic, but it is absolutely perfect for reading: it demands to be heard as a solo experience and is just curious enough to keep you alert.

The best Tycho track is Dictaphone’s Lament off his last album. Hours is amazing, but not quite as good.

Thanks! Diggin it – After years of punishing myself with punk and metal (still do), I am finally getting into IDM via Ulrich Schnauss, Amon Tobin (don’t know if he counts or not), Autechre, Future Sound of London, The Dining Rooms among many others.
Tycho is pretty sweet, his ISO 50 art matches the music quite well.

I would say more of a sunset on a beach after a long day sort of song. But LOVE to see Tycho getting play. Scott Hansen is one of the most brilliant artists(musical and video) working today.
I’m a little in love right now. And since work at 6:43 on a Friday night feels positively post-apocalyptic, this might be just the thing to get me through.
