The Music Geek Track of the Week: “Fall Creek Boys Choir”

Just, erm… Sorry,  I’m sort of speechless. How do I put this?

Hey, guys, so this week Bon Iver and James Blake released a collaboration called “Fall Creek Boys Choir.”

I did it! You see, I’m trying to capably support the stereotype of the depressed, indie-rock, hipster by not saying something like “HOLY GRANDMA’S MEATLOAF! Justin Vernon and James Blake are making music, together! On the same song! No, seriously, they are! I’m not lying! You can Google it yourself! No, I will not go back to work, Mom, I have to finish writing this thing so the world can hear it’s sexy goodness!” Or something along those lines.

This musical birth is the product of some SERIOUS baby makin’. It incorporates the interesting nuances that Blake’s known for, like dog sounds and voice modulation. But it also has Vernon’s sultry falsetto that never ceases to knock me on my butt. Start anticipating a musical revolt, nerds. These boys are so talented, it’s making everyone else look bad!

I wrote about Blake a while back and he has since exploded into this, sort of, musical phantom. I’m not entirely sure he’s a real person — hologram, maybe.  However, I know Justin Vernon is real. I have totally seen him and I’m totally, 98% sure he’s not a robot. JV and his band are coming to LA in late September for 2 nights of musical wooing, where I will investigate further.

Stop reading this and just listen to it.

    This song has hiccups

  2. Michelle says:

I can’t understand any of the words…I would need a youtube of the song with lyrics, but I like a lot of the sounds.

  3. Nadir says:

Vernon and Blake both amazing, and I think this kind of sounds like what would happen if Blake produced Blood Bank.

  5. I liked it. I do prefer his simple songs more, but I enjoy these “experimental” songs as well

I don’t know. I think ELO did robot voices better. So did Bee Gee’s with “She’s Leaving Home” from the Sgt. Pepper movie.
