The Muppets Hop Down Memory Lane For 35th Anniversary of The Muppet Movie

Kermit and Pepe the King Prawn are still on a press tour for the BluRay combo pack release of the latest Muppet movie, Muppets Most Wanted. As this release coincides with the 35th anniversary of The Muppet Movie, their first big screen adventure, they recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the rich history of the Muppets on film.

For anyone who grew up watching the Muppets on the big screen, there are some great moments of trivia in this interview. Kermit admits he took quite a bit of inspiration from Sir Patrick Stewart for his role during Muppet Treasure Island in 1996. Both Kermit and Pepe discuss their history of spokesman roles to restaurants. Kermit was weary of the opportunities that came his way as restaurants always seemed to want “an arm and a leg” from him. Muppet fans everywhere should be glad he never did pair up with a place that had such terms in their contract. He could have ended up on the menu!

Oh and there’s a great bit in there about pig/frog marriage legalities. Don’t miss it!

The Muppets bring up such feelings of nostalgia and childhood that this video is a wonderful reminder of all the great stories they have brought to life over the years. From the first the Muppet movie in 1979 to this year’s successful Muppets Most Wanted, Kermit, Miss Piggy and all their friends have always entertained and educated kids and adults with humor and great story-telling. It’s a real pleasure to see these two artists get to walk…well hop or scuttle really…down memory lane.
