Erik Jones doesn’t need glass slippers or a fairy godmother to get the castle of his dreams. He built it from 50,000 LEGO bricks. Jones–already a LEGO builder–was inspired by taking a close look at Cinderella’s Castle on a visit to the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. All the castle has ever inspired me to do is comment on how much bigger it is than the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland, but Jones was motivated to create. He took his time designing the castle in LEGO Digital Designer and used original blueprint sketches he found online for the castle before starting to piece it together in January. Behold the finished model of Cinderella’s Castle:
It stands at six and a half feet high and is four and a half feet wide. Seriously. On Reddit, he said the most challenging part wasn’t necessarily the build, it was sourcing the bricks. By the time all 50,000 bricks were clicked into place, Jones estimates he spent $4,500 on supplies. Hey, it’s not exactly inexpensive, but it is much cheaper than an actual castle. More pictures of the blocky castle are in the gallery below.
As you can imagine, storage for such a giant model is tricky. Jones is searching for a new home for the detailed castle. He’s considering donating the finished castle to a charity or maybe trying to display it in a LEGO store.
Which castle would you build from LEGO bricks? I like Cinderella’s castle, but I’m more about Hogwarts. Share your pick in the comments.
