THE MIST Trailer Proves Nothing is More Horrifying Than the Unknown

Nothing is more frightening than what you can’t see, and it looks like Spike’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist is playing on that very fear. The latest trailer for the show highlights an idyllic town with something ugly brewing just beneath the surface. When a mysterious mist rolls into town, that facade is torn away to give way to violence and untapped horror. Check out the latest trailer to get a glimpse:

If this trailer is any indication, Spike’s new show will be playing heavily on the low visibility, and terrifying fans with a villain that is not only lethal, but nearly impossible to see. While the specifics of what the monster actually is remains to be seen, it seems like this latest adaptation will be a horrific and super bloody romp for fans old and new. With the increased presence of intense horror series like American Horror Story and Bates Motel, The Mist will have some big expectations to meet. However, if these trailers are any indication, this new series is going to be nothing short of terrifying.

For fans of King’s short story of the same name, you can probably already spot some differences from the source material, involving an abundance of new characters. However, showrunner Christian Torpe intends for the show to walk that delicate balance between a fresh interpretation and faithful embrace of the source material. The Mist is set to be 10 episodes long with a clear ending in mind, so even though King’s original story is being expanded, it looks like it won’t be stretched beyond recognition. The Mist will premiere on Spike on June 22–get ready!
