THE MAGICIANS Season 2 Exclusive, SHERLOCK in Theaters, and More TV News

Today’s TV-Cap is stuffed to the gills, so I’m not going to waste any time getting down to business. Keep on going to see an exclusive from season two of The Magicians, to learn about two recently cancelled shows, to find out about how to see BBC’s Sherlock in theaters, and more.

Oh Boy. Syfy is casting a spell to make season two of The Magicians land on your television on January 25. Fillory is happening, magical beasts are going to go toe-to-toe–in other words, things are going to 11. We have an exclusive character featurette from season two for you above. [Nerdist]

On the Digital Side. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has launched a new six part digital series. The mini, titled Slingshot, follows Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez between seasons three and four of the Marvel series. You can view the first episode, “Vendetta,” above courtesy of IGN and watch the whole thing on ABC.com, Marvel.com, YouTube, and ABC’s mobile app. Whew. [IGN]

Relive the Mystery. With season four debuting on January 1, new episodes of Sherlock are nearly here. The new installments will roll out quickly with “The Final Problem” as the season four finale. If you want to watch it on the big screen, you can do so on January 16 and January 18 thanks to Fathom Events. The footage will include the finale and 15 minutes of exclusive extras. Get tickets from Fathom.

Festival Time! PaleyFest LA has announced dates for 2017: they’ll be back at the Dolby Theatre from March 17-March 26, 2017. So far three series have already scheduled appearances at the event: Westworld, This Is Us, and American Horror Story: Roanoke. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on January 12, but members will get early access. Get details from PaleyFest’s website.

Motor City Trip. Comedy Central’s new comedy Detroiters has a premiere date: February 7. The series follows Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson, best friends and “small-time ad men,” as they pursue success in the Motor City.

End Credits. Word dropped about cancellation for two series yesterday. WGN America is bringing Salem to an end after three seasons. The third season will bow in early 2017; the series creators knew that going in, so they’ll be able to wrap the stories accordingly. Over on Netflix, Marco Polo is done. They cancelled the series after two seasons (the second season came out in July).[TVLine, The Hollywood Reporter]

Beginnings. On the other side of the coin, TBS has added two more renewals to its upcoming roster. People of Earth and Search Party have both scored 10 episode second seasons.

First Look. Nicole Kidman is dropping by a new installment of Top of the Lake. She’ll play Julia in SundanceTV’s 2017 release of Top of the Lake: China Girl, which will also feature Elisabeth Moss reprising her role as Detective Robin Griffin.
