The Lumineers Contribute To THE WALKING DEAD’s SONGS OF SURVIVAL VOL. 2

AMC’s ongoing zombie epic The Walking Dead has slowly built a reputation for itself as an outlet for surprisingly diverse contemporary music. So it’s fitting that the upcoming home video release of The Walking Dead: The Complete Fourth Season (available on DVD and Blu-ray on August 26th from Anchor Bay) contains a bonus disc of moody tunes. Titled Songs of Survival Vol. 2, this post-apocalyptic mix — available with the set exclusively at Walmart, along with a replica of the key the show’s survivors use to enter their third and fourth-season prison home — features work from Phantogram (as remixed by Alt-J), Crooked Fingers, Kongos, and Denver folk rockers the Lumineers. Though known for their uptempo tunes, the Lumineers’ contribution, “Visions of China,” finds the band applying their simple, rustic style to a suitably downbeat Dead track. You can hear the song below, courtesy of SPIN.

Idolator had previously premiered another track off of Songs of Survival, Vol. 2, Colbie Caillat’s “The Way I Was”. Regarding her involvement with The Walking Dead, Caillat told the music site, “My boyfriend Justin and I love the show, started watching it on tour years ago and have been a fan of the music they use bringing emotion to every scene.” Like the Lumineers, Caillat is known for a sunnier flavor of music that she modified to suit Robert Kirkman’s zombie universe. Here’s “The Way I Was”.

In addition to “The Way I Was” and “Visions of China”, Songs of Survival, Vol.2 contains Meshell Ndegeocello’s “Good Day Bad”, Phantogram’s “Never Going Home (Alt-J. Remix)”, Crooked Fingers’ “All The Young Thugs’, Kongos’ “Escape (Acoustic)”, and Godsmack’s “Turning To Stone”. Because we love you so much, here’s one more for the road, Phantogram’s contribution.
