In less than a day, Luke Cage is coming to Netflix with his own original series. But fans won’t have to wait long to get a taste of what to expect from Marvel’s latest TV show. Netflix has released the opening credit sequence and theme song from Luke Cage, and they are worthy of the man himself.
Much like the Daredevil and Jessica Jones opening sequences, the Luke Cage credits are used to establish the world of its leading hero. For Cage, his world is Harlem, the historic New York neighborhood that is both a battleground for the series and the heart of the show. Luke Cage also breaks with the previous Marvel shows by prominently featuring Mike Colter‘s title character with the imagery of the city projected on to his body.

Our favorite part of that video is the way that it places the neighborhood squarely on Cage’s shoulders, which is an apt visual metaphor for the show. It’s also awash in Cage’s signature yellow, while the theme composed by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad has captured the flavor of the ’70s while maintaining the series’ modern flair.
All 13 episodes of Luke Cage season 1 will hit Netflix at midnight, September 30. And judging from the early response, we have every confidence that a second season order will follow in the near future.
