The Los Angeles Film Festival Kicks Off Its 20th Year with CLUELESS Screening

This week Film Independent held the first in its five-part outdoor Free Community Screening series at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles as part of the 20th annual Los Angeles Film Festival by showing the 1995 comedy Clueless. Writer/ director Amy Heckerling was on hand to discuss the film and participate in a Q&A, as were stars Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, and Elisa Donovan. Additional entries in the Free Community Screening series include La Bamba, Limited Partnership, I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story and a double bill of the Buster Keaton classics Sherlock Jr. and Cops.

The line up for the 20th Los Angeles Film Festival, which runs from June 11 to June 19, was also announced earlier this week. The festival will screen nearly 200 films from 40 countries and includes signature programs such as the Filmmaker Retreat, Music in Film Nights at The Grammy Museum at L.A. Live, Master Classes, LA Muse, and more.

This year, the LA Film Festival also features the premiere of 35 films, 23 of them world premieres, including the closing night film, the much anticipated feature adaptation of the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys directed by Clint Eastwood. Jersey Boys is, of course, the story of legendary pop group Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Academy Award winner Christopher Walken.

Passes to the festival, as well as screening information and schedules, festival guides and more can be found at www.lafilmfest.com.
