To say Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra series finale was “arguably†the best series finale of 2014 would be incorrect — there’s no argument to be had. We can’t think of a series finale from last year that delivered on everything fans wanted while paying respect to the animated series’ four season journey better than Korra. There were giant mech battles, city level destruction, huge stakes and, shockingly, the coming together of two characters that essentially shattered just about every perception of what can and can’t be done on both animated and “children’s†programming.
With the show sadly over and the Avatar franchise now in the rear view mirror for creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who have moved on to other projects, Nickelodeon has constructed a really cool set of images that lay out the entire family tree of the world we’ve watched since the early days of Avatar: The Last Airbender. This makes us really miss the show, but it also reminds us of just how lucky we were the series was able to wrap up on its own terms at all. Let us not forget the seemingly endless tug of war that took place between Nickelodeon and its programming team. The show moved from Saturday mornings to Fridays, then from traditional television to a “Nick.com exclusive†where it remained for the last of its run.
The Legend of Korra may have deserved better from its network, but that didn’t stop it from delivering a truly masterful series we won’t soon forget. It wasn’t just an animated series or children’s program. It was great television right up there with Game of Thrones, Doctor Who and Orphan Black.

This brings up so many more questions for me now! Like they had talked about how Sokka became Chief of the water tribe but what happened to Suki? And if we are to believe that the title of Chief is handed down by family like Korra’s father and uncle suggested then does that mean they are related to Sokka and Katara??? I genuinely can’t stop thinking about these shows and need all the new information I can get my hands on!

If the bending is separated in nations it must have a genetic component. The air benders were nomads, so their genes are all over the place. When the air bending was awakened I think it awakened those genes. If so, then Opal must have been related to an air bender. And we never knew who Su’s father was.
