HBO‘s recently wrapped series The Leftovers is one of my all-time favorite shows, but every single episode left me a puddle of raw emotion. A big reason for that was the series’ score, which transformed sad scenes into unbearable moments of heartache. But just because the show is off the air that doesn’t mean its music can’t still be used, and it turns out it can make any scene a total tear jerker.
The YouTube channel Freshly Popped Culture (which we learned about at Uproxx) has been taking composer Max Richter’s beautiful, haunting soundtrack from The Leftovers–especially “The Quality of Mercy,” the one that always played during the most devastating moments on the series–and scoring it to other scenes from pop culture. It makes even funny moments serious, like the Anchorman scene above, and already sad ones, like Mufasa’s death in The Lion King, so much worse.

What am I doing? Why am I putting myself through this? This is why I tell people not to binge The Leftovers. You need at least a week to recover emotionally.
