The Latest STAR WARS REBELS Short Is All About Zeb

Lucasfilm and Disney are continuing their streak of improving Mondays with a new Star Wars Rebels short. This installment – which, by the way, features footage you won’t be seeing in the television series – focuses on Zeb Orrelios. I’d call the Lasat rebel, voiced by Steve Blum, the brawn of the Ghost crew, but he has brains too. He’s fond of punching Stormtroopers, and his enthusiasm for the task is on full display in “Entanglement.”

The short highlights Zeb’s strength and his spirit. When he sees a citizen getting bullied by Stormtroopers, he doesn’t hesitate to stop and help even though he’s supposed to be meeting Kanan at a rendezvous point. Zeb seems to delight in putting the troopers off course, and you can hear the lack of surprise in Kanan’s voice.

As we saw in the short about Sabine, the Stormtroopers seem incompetent. They’re strong enough to intimidate the locals, but once Zeb puts them to the test in a fight? Well, I wouldn’t bet on them. Seeing the Stormtroopers defeated so easily will probably help the case of the rebels and make civilians more likely to join their cause. Hopefully.

Back to Zeb, I’m glad the spotlight shows he’s not just a brute force. I’ve seen some people assume the character was like Chewbacca in that he doesn’t speak basic, but “Entanglement” clears up any confusion. Zeb is clearly the kind of guy you want to have on your team, and I expect he’ll be the source of some laugh out loud moments in the series.

Star Wars Rebels premieres on the Disney Channel on October 3rd.
