Avengers Assemble! We’re going to keep shouting that on the off chance that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes appear before us in advance of the May 1 release date of the hotly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron. Just as that film looks to change the stakes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on-screen, massive readjustments are happening behind the scenes as well. Yesterday, it was announced that Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo will be filling the void left behind by Joss Whedon and directing Avengers: Infinity War. Today, on Nerdist News, our very own Jessica Chobot breaks down exactly what that means for the future of the franchise.

But WAIT, there’s more! Considering that Captain America: Civil War is gearing up to start shooting in a few weeks, Marvel is scrambling to figure out the future of its recently rescued friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. On today’s episode, we break down the direction in which their casting choices could swing–and it just may surprise you. Or maybe you’re more cynical than Tony Stark and you won’t be surprised. The point is that we’ve got the highest level of S.H.I.E.L.D. clearance possible, and we’re letting you in on the latest, True Believers.

  1. Aaron says:

If they do go with a younger Spider-man, I’m hoping they get Asa Butterfield from Ender’s Game.  Seems like he might be a good choice.

  2. Chris says:

They need a Spider-Man that is like Peter Parker from the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, an older, genius, wisecracking, college student/graduate.

  3. Punky says:

The stunt man try hired for Spiderman in Cap 3 is an African American guy. Just sayin.

  4. Adia says:

For the Spider-man reboots AFTER Civil War, by all means, go back to the high school age Spidey Sony all seems to think we want (Personally, I think we could do without ANOTHER origin story reboot of Peter Parker,) but in Civil War it really needs to a an older Spidey. It wouldn’t make sense really to have high school Spidey in Civil War.

  5. Django says:

I was kinda hopping for an older Peter, but Im still exited!!!

  6. butt mckenzie says:

    Donald Glover for Spiderman!!!!

    • Andrew says:

No … If Spiderman is in Civil War it needs to be Peter Parker. AFTER that they can do what they want and if what they want is to bring in Miles then so be it.

  7. Mitchell bend says:

Chris evans only has a five movie contract deal with Marvel, Cap1, Avengers, Cap2, Avengers2, and Civil war where steve Rogers does die in the comics and then Bucky/Winter soldier takes up the mantle of captain america so YESSS the winter soldier will be in civil war and why is everybody forgetting ANTMAN he is part of the avengers too and also they could kill off bucky as well since after bucky FALCON becomes Captain america

  8. James says:

I think they’re laying pretty cool groundwork. I have a lot of the same predictions as Nerdist. Anyone who has opened a marvel comic in the past ten years knows what’s likely going to happen to Cap at the end of “Civil War” and with the third Thor film titled Ragnarok (which is the norse “end of days” myth). There a safe chance to say that our favorite Thunder God will not come out of his third outing unscathed. Add in some sort of stasis/mishap/execution attempt via nuke and the Hulk can also disappear from the mix pretty quick. This would leave Stark to form his “Giant-Sized X-Men”-style team to square off against Thanos, Possibly featuring the female Thor (hopefully not Portman, forgive me I haven’t followed this storyline so i’m not sure the specifics) and a torched-passed Cap (either Winter Soldier or Falcon Likely). The second Infinity war could have the original line up returning to kick some wholesale ass alongside the new Avengers along with a full on bench clearing of every marvel hero to have hit the screen so far. I’m also happy that they are making Spidey high school aged and that it appears they are sticking with Peter Parker. While I am very flexible with Spidey’s ethnicity, I think that at this point Parker is much more engaging than Morales and could make the jump to the MCU with less nonsense. My major three questions are: A) Can we please get Wolvie too? I know its huge stretch because X-Men is a huge property for Fox, but a full-blown melee just isn’t a full-blown melee without our man Logan.  B) Will the Punisher make an entrance? I know he’s had a rough transition to screen, but he does play a pivotal role in Civil war and it would just be great to have the guy everyone hates at the party. There’s a ton of creative ways to make him work. and Finally C) Do you think that Agents of Shield and the Characters from the upcoming Netflix series will enter the fray as well?

  9. Zack says:

    Firefly is THAT good.
