The JV Club #133: Sarah Thyre

This week’s guest, the extraordinary Sarah Thyre, answers possibly the most pressing question facing Americans today: Where can you go to practice walking in high heels on cobblestones before your trip to Europe? And perhaps just as vital: How have Playboy boobs changed over the decades? Also, guess what? Sarah’s awesome!

Yet another podcast I can relate to!  What a relief to realize I was completely normal growing up despite being made to feel “dirty” for something that felt good.  I didn’t know what masturbating was and it was never explained to me.  My parents would get pissed if I got caught and just tell me to stop and go wash my hands.  I would also draw penises and breasts in my notebooks but then I would get scared and destroy the pages so that I wouldn’t get into any trouble.  I would have died from shame had my parents seen what I drew like Sarah’s did.  It is nice to hear that Sarah is open with her kids, I’m sure that will strengthen their relationship and they’ll always feel they can go to her for anything.

  2. I loved this episode! Sarah is really cool, although I have to say I stay away from “vagina” or “vulva” when talking to my daughter, she’s only 8, there’s time to learn the technical terms… Anyway, great talk. Thanks for sharing Janet!

practicing walking on cobblestones…give me a break!! Just an excuse to rub it in peoples’ faces that she’s going to Europe!

in regards to being scared of needles – they never actually scared me too much. I once read something that proposed the idea that irrational fears come from wounds or deaths suffered in a past life. (for example, snakebite killed you a past life so you are scared of snakes in your new life) Something to think about!

  4. PJ says:

It’s not very Catholic to get divorced! Seriously though, American Catholics are so Protestant-like.

Anyway, another thing about Playboy is that they airbrush their models to death. I’m guessing it didn’t use to be that way either.
