Thank Goodness, Bill Murray Sang “The Bare Necessities” with Mowgli

If you’re like most people one of the bare necessities of leading a happy life involves having Bill Murray show up on your television screen to do something awesome. Good news—he did it again.

Murray was on Jimmy Kimmel Live along with his co-star from the upcoming live adaptation of The Jungle Book, young Neel Sethi who plays Mowgli. Murray is providing the voice of Baloo, Mowgli’s bear friend, so Kimmel asked the two of them if they wouldn’t mind doing a definitely, totally spontaneous rendition of the duos famous song from the original animated version, “The Bare Necessities.”

How fortunate Kimmel just had some dancing bears on this night!

Though the two didn’t exactly confirm that the song is in the film or not, it certainly appears that it made the cut, since they broke into a pretty good duet, complete with Murray pretending to eat ants. If young Sethi is going to be as likable in the movie as he was here, this Jon Favreau directed version might be even better than we hope.

Also, if you’d like to compare this version to the old one, here’s the original rendition of the song from the 1967 animated film.

Oh, hey, good luck getting this out of your head this weekend. We’re not even going to pretend like we are sorry either. It’s really catchy.

Disney recently released a clip from the movie that also involved these two stealing honey and scheming for nap time, which can help hold you over until The Jungle Book roars into theaters this month on April 15th.

What other elements of the original film do you want to see included in the new version? It’s necessary for you to bare your thoughts in our comments below.
