When we last left our heroes, they had vanquished the nefarious Syndrome, pulled the rug out from under a decades-long ban on public superheroing, and, above all, reconnected as a loving family unit. Fourteen years later, we’re catching back up with The Incredibles‘ anything-but-par nuclear fam, and a slew of new charactersâsome on the right side of justice, others… well, we don’t want to jump to any inclusions.
With The Incredibles 2 now only a few months from release, Pixar has hit social media with a reintroduction to the Parrs (and some other familiar faces), and a first look at some of the characters who’ll be joining the family in their long-awaited second adventure. Joining the cast for this second go-’round are Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul stars Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks, along with Catherine Keener (who may well be doubling down on the evil tendencies we first caught sight of in last year’s Get Out), international film legend Isabella Rossellini, and One Tree Hill and the Chicago franchise’s Sophia Bush.
Per Pixar’s press release, Odenkirk and Keener play Bob and Evelyn Deavor: ingenious siblings and telecommunications moguls whose ambitions to align their brand with the resurgence of “supers” lands them in the crosshairs of the Incredibles. (Odenkirk’s Winston may well have good intentions, but with a name that sounds a bit too much like “Evil Endeavor,” we can bet that Keener’s character is going to be more friend than foe.)
As for new Supers, we have Bush’s up-and-comer Voyd, who can manipulate her physical surroundings by way of creating “voids” in the fabric of space. She finds an idol in Parr matriarch Elastigirl… though hopefully minus the toxic attachments that turned young Buddy into Syndrome in the first movie.
Next, we have Banks as Rick Dicker, an agent of the Super Relocation Program whose main assignment is to keep the Parr’s identity a secret, and Rossellini as the Ambassador, whose supreme goal is to bring Supers back into society for good… and for good!
Of course, the entire Parr family is also set to return; Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Sarah Vowell will reprise the roles of Bob (Mr. Incredible), Helen (Elastigirl), and Violet (who just might get her own Super name this time!), and Huck Milner will sub in for young speedster Dash. Likewise returning are Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone and Brad Bird, the film’s writer and director, as Edna Mode.
What do you think about The Incredibles 2‘s Better Call Saul reunion, or this new wicked wave of Catherine Keener’s career? Let us know!
