THE HATEFUL EIGHT is Still Not Kid Friendly as a Cartoon

Perhaps the Academy Awards on Sunday night is a family event for you and your kids, where you all huddle around the TV and watch Hollywood remind itself how great it is. Unfortunately, if your children are too young they can’t possibly have seen all of the films up for the big awards, so they might not be able to appreciate all the nominees. Which is why Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s latest edition of their Kimmel Kartoon segment, where they try to make “family friendly versions of R-rated movies,” combines Quentin Tarantino‘s brutally violent The Hateful Eight with an old Bugs Bunny Looney Tunes cartoon.

In this mash-up Bugs himself fills the role of Samuel L. Jackson‘s very dubious Major Marquis Warren, with Yosemite Sam taking on the role of Demian Bichar‘s “Bob,” as Bugs confronts Yosemite Sam over Minnie’s hatred for Mexicans, and you know what – don’t show any of this to your kids. Never mind, terrible idea.

That probably also goes for Kimmel‘s version of Straight Outta Compton set to an Alvin and the Chipmunk‘s cartoon.

Well I guess we’ll have to find other ways of discussing racism and deep societal problems with our kids that don’t involve cartoons. Maybe puppets would work?

There are some other, political segments of Kimmel’s Kartoons for you to check out at the show’s YouTube page, and Jimmy Kimmel will also host his 11th annual post-Oscars show on ABC Sunday night.

Which cartoon would you pick for this segment for each of 2015’s biggest films? Draw up your best ideas in the comments section below.
