Let the Grinch Relax and Disturb You with This ASMR Video

We have a hard time coming up with two things as perfectly mismatched as the Grinch and ASMR. One is a notoriously loud, crabby, and holiday-hating character, while the other is a sensory experience caused by sound and motion triggers, which is known for soothing anxiety and promoting relaxation. Put them together and you get… well, you get this: the Grinch himself making a highly misguided attempt at recording an ASMR video. Something that probably never should have come to be in the first place, but what are you gonna do? Take a look:

There are a few seconds of soothing intonations in there, but for the most part, the Grinch proves himself pretty incapable of creating a comforting experience. Not only does he yell more than once, his intense eye-contact with the camera is about as far from relaxing as you can get. To make matters even more bizarre, he bites into a raw onion—a “Grinchy nibble”—chewing it slowly, intensely, ripping off his own hand hair in the process. Nothing says “stress relief” quite like gazing into these eyes and thinking about the choices in life that led you to this place.

The video was created to promote Grinchmas at Universal Studios Hollywood, a “Who-tacular” holiday event featuring the Grinch, his dog Max, and other residents of Whoville, which is running now through December 30. If it’s anything like the Grinch doing ASMR, saddle up for a highly uncomfortable experience.

Is this the worst ASMR video you’ve ever seen? If not, what is?
