THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN Trailer Shows Emily Blunt Having a Very Bad Day

The morning commute is usually pretty uneventful. It doesn’t matter whether one drives a car, takes the bus, or rides the train to the daily grind; one can expect to see familiar faces, sights, and sounds, but rarely is anything out of the ordinary. Unless, of course, you happen to be Emily Blunt in Tate Taylor’s forthcoming feature film adaptation of The Girl on the Train. Then you witness a woman go missing and become embroiled in a psychosexual murder mystery that turns your life more flipped-turned upside-down than one hundred Fresh Princes. (In case you’re wondering, post-Brexit, that is quite a large sum.) And that’s precisely what happens in the latest trailer for The Girl on the Train, which was released Monday morning.

In the latest trailer for the hotly anticipated adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ mega-popular novel, we see Rachel (Emily Blunt) on her daily commute, watching the same sights and sounds whip by her as the train trudges past…until one day she sees something wholly unexpected. A blonde woman named Megan (Haley Bennett), one half of a seemingly happily married couple she sees every day on her commute, goes missing. From her vantage point on the train, Rachel witnesses something horrible happen to Megan. And if that weren’t disconcerting enough, a slowed-down rendition of Kanye West’s “Heartless” adds an even creepier vibe to the proceedings. Having not read the novel myself, I can’t speak to the narrative fidelity of this adaptation, but it looks like a capable psychological thriller based on the trailer. Plus, I’ll pretty much see anything that Emily Blunt is in, even when it isn’t related to Edge of Tomorrow.

Here is the official synopsis for the film:

“In the thriller, Rachel (Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.”

The film also stars Allison Janney, Justin Theroux, Rebecca Ferguson, Luke Evans, and Lisa Kudrow (who has still not yet been revealed).

The Girl on the Train hits theaters on October 7. What do you think of the latest trailer? Let us know in the comments below.
