The Girl from ‘Whale Rider’ May Join ‘Game of Thrones’ in Spoiler-y Dornish Role

There’s some exciting casting news afoot, Game of Thrones fans. Rumors rife with Oscar-nominated glory as it is being reported that Keisha Castle-Hughes — better known as the young girl from 2002’s Whale Rider — may be tasked with tackling a major role in season five. Read on if you’re not afraid of spoilers, fair readers, but don’t get mad at us if you do and read something you may not have wanted to — OK?

Alright, so, now onto the good, juicy stuff. Castle-Hughes is apparently in the running to become one of Oberyn Martell’s bastard daughters, better known as the Sand Snakes to all you book readers out there. For those not in the know, the Sand Snakes live in Dorne — which we already know will feature heavily in season five — are the dearly departed Red Viper’s eight bastard daughters from various women in and around Dorne. They are fierce warriors, famous all throughout Dorne, and protectors of their family’s honor, just like daddyio (R.I.P., sniff).

According to the news, Castle-Hughes is reportedly being considered for one of the two older Snakes, Obara and Nymeria Sand (the bastard surname of Dorne — just like Snow in the North). The former idea being the most titilating as it has been reported that one of the now-many deviations from the book series will find Jaime Lannister heading to Dorne and, according to some spoiler-y speculative and deductive reasoning, potentially getting into a tumble with one of the older Snakes. All of which sounds pretty, pretty exciting if you ask us.

What do you think about the potential casting of Castle-Hughes and the Jaime-heading-to-Dorne business? Let us know in the comments.

  1. In a perfect world, the Snakes team up with the remaining Starks (and pouty Snow) to kill all the Lannisters.

  2. Itsameamario says:

How do you call her the whale rider girl when shes also queen of naboo!!

  3. Axelsanx says:

She can pull off Dorne.  She can bring out her inner Maori to be a badass Sand Snake.

  4. They have to get Jaime out of Kings Landing and sending him to Dorne sounds more fun than what happened in the book. I can’t imagine a Sand Snake would get romantically involved with a Lannister though.

  5. Jeff says:

    Spoilers great thanks a lot!

  6. She does have Castle in her surname, seems like a good choice. She was quite good in The Almighty Johnsons as a Norse God, she ought to be quite good as a Sand Snake.

    • Axelsanx says:

She is not a Norse god in The Almighty Johnsons, cause Gaia is not Norse.  But I agree she would be a Great Sand Snake.

  7. Nick DePrimo says:

Interesting stuff! I’m psyched to see where they end up shooting the Dorne scenes, and I’m definitely expecting this season to be known as the “Boats!” season.
