The Force Is With the First Trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

The trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here. It’s all happening. The 88 second teaser was shown in 30 theaters in the United States and Canada and was just released online. While it doesn’t reveal a ton of information, it does include actual footage and not just a shot of the Millennium Falcon jumping into hyperspace. Chances are you’re not still reading so take a moment and watch:

Are you still breathing? I raced to a theater this morning on the East coast to see a 9:30am showing. It was the earliest possible movie the teaser was attached to. I sat down with a racing heart, and the screen froze and died right before the previews started. I nearly had a panic attack. Five minutes later, we were back in action. Every time a new preview screen popped up, I was on edge. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was last, and by the time I saw it, I was ready to throw up from anticipation. Ahh, fandom.

“There’s been an awakening…”

So, what did we learn? We saw Tatooine. We saw John Boyega in stormtooper armor looking distraught and confused. We saw Daisy Ridley in an outfit like the one Leia wore in the speeder bike chase on Endor. We saw what looks like Oscar Isaac flying an X-wing (could he be an Antilles descendant?!). We saw a new type of droid. We saw a Sith in black robes with a red T-shaped lightsaber. And then, there’s the Millennium Falcon, X-wings, and TIE fighters. Did I mention the beautiful, beautiful Falcon? That’s the money shot you want to see on a big screen if at all possible.

As far as teases go, it was a wonderful mix of hints and mystery. It doesn’t show too many details, but at least we know something about the movie now. It will feature the light side and the dark side of the Force, and given that Boyega, Ridley, and Isaac were highlighted in the trailer, maybe they’re tied into that battle. In fact, they’re likely the new Luke, Leia, and Han.

Before you go, look at this gallery of stills from the trailer:

I should have posted this here and not the newer ‘ball droid’ post. In that same quick scene the ship on the left kinda reminds me of something out of the Macross universe. I know, it’s only from behind but to me it does look Macross-ish.What else? The ‘land speeder’ looks like Lukes but flipped on it’s side and reworked! NOT hating on it, just saying that’s what it reminded me of.I like the new light sabre. If you’re trolling about it, things change, get over it. No one seems to be harping on the newer Storm Trooper design! Maybe they’ll have a new targeting system. My unconceived child can aim better than them!As for the name. I don’t think it’s any better or worse than “A New Hope”. Like Eps 4, 5, and 6 the title gives the over all broad plot point unlike 1 and 2. Phantom Menace… ooook. Attack of the Clones… do they even attack in that one!? #3 kinda works I guess.Anyways.. that’s my opinion. Troll away….

As I always say, Stormtroopers are some of the best shots in the galaxy. When it comes to the accusation of missing: They. Missed. On. Purpose. Vader let the rebels get away from the Death Star so they could be tracked to Yavin IV. You need to re-watch your Star Wars, SwanGore. Everyone always seems to forget all the Rebel Alliance casualties on the Tantive IV, Hoth, Endor, not to mention the Jawas, the Lars homestead, Porkins, Biggs, dare I even mention Alderaan? The Imperials are pretty capable. I’m kinda tired of the unfounded stereotype of inaccuracy.

      • SwanGore says:

No, I don’t need to watch it again. I’m sure you and I have seen it more times than all the women have seen Titanic and I’m sure there was a point where we could quote Ep 4 line for line! Their aim (or lack of) just a funny point to make. Like the guys wearing red shirts in Star Trek are going to die (UH OH… Star Trek and Wars in the same conversation!!!!). Picard wore a red shirt…. he’s fine! So, no not ALL storm troopers are bad shots. All bad guys to tend to miss at just the right time though. But, Alderaan? You can’t compair a clone in white armor, with a blaster to a space station with a giant laser cannon aiming at a planet. I mean… that’s just crazy talk!

    • JetpackBlues says:

The ship you’re referring to looks like the back end of the Minerva from Crusher Joe.

      • SwanGore says:

Yeah, you’re right! I’ve never really had much exposure to Crusher Joe so that wouldn’t have popped in my head though. I what caught my eye were the shades of green and brown on the ship. My mind went Zentradi.

  2. per says:

there’s nothing wrong with that lightsaber design, if you spin it all the weaknesses go away and become strengths.  sith lord don’t need to spin it he just flicks his wrist as needed cause he’s talented.  sith lord don’t give a fuck.  lighsabers stick anyway it’s probably more of a secondary offense than a defense.

    • RW Griswold says:

considering they appear to be independently operable I’d see there being some very handy uses for an eight inch lightsaber at a 90 degree angle… think about close proximity torturing of captives, or

  3. Maria @LaughtAndlived says:

Have to admit, this trailer made every hair on my body stand up in attention. Such a cool teaser. Just one problem tho, I want that fucking awesome lightsaber now!!

  4. Make it stop says:

George Lucas’ movies were about showing us something we hadn’t seen – taking our minds to a new place, and genuinely sparking our imaginations with his universe. JJ Abrams is about cheap tricks and pleasing studio executives – sad sad state of affairs these franchises are in. After he ruined one of the most intellectual franchises of all time in Star Trek by making it into a smutty cheap space drama I refuse to see him do the same to this beloved series.

    • Alex says:

This series hasn’t been beloved in three films. Also star trek movie wise has been at it’s best when it wasn’t trying to be intellectual, case in point the wrath of khan. A straight forward action movie, That hippy futurist stuff works better in 45 min chunks.

    • “one of the most intellectual franchises of all time in Star Trek”

  5. Phill says:

Shut up and take my money

  6. Patrick says:

I am exited, The teaser even has my inner nerd pondering the new hilt on the light saber. Is it an impractical design that is dangerous to the user? Or is that a Saber given to the sith as a way to weed out the week and untalented among them

    • Wilson says:

       “excited”  and “weak”

    • Person says:

I dunno man. It’d make defending against another sith/jedi pretty easy. You’d be able to catch the blade before it takes your hand off. Might not be too terribly impractical.

    • Make it stop says:

It’s an impractical design – JJ Abrams doesn’t give thought to what he does. He just does a bunch of lowest common denominator gimmics that he thinks will please everyone. Read his interviews about how he doesn’t know or care about established universe traits or any of the fandom – it’s actually maddening to think this guy who just doesn’t give a sh*t is allowed to jerk off onto these beloved movies bc people see $$$

      • John Manhart says:

yeah that doesn’t sound anything like the last three movies at all, not at all, literally nothing at all like them

  7. Atte says:

Yeah this looks pretty amaing. Very stoked on the idea that one of the main characters might be a storm trooper. That is some seriously cool shit right there. Also, X-Wings.

  8. Angel says:

Ah, the Falcon combined with John William’s score – made me all teary again with nostalgia.

  9. Jason says:

all of which are Absolute 100% undeniably successful franchises. . Which makes your opinion (that is what it is, opinion) far outside the popular view. That is ok, but please, when the whole world will tell you you are wrong, don’t spend a lot of time trying to argue against it. By sheer volume, you cant win.

  10. mogulus says:

LOST is my favorite show of all time, Super 8 was awesome and Spock was half human in original star trek. You’re trolling sadly. I troll your troll. Get back under bridge, troll.

  11. Farseeker says:

Yep, I tear up easily with movie excitement.

  12. Farseeker says:

it’s been termed a space fantasy ever since Star Wars came out. So, yeah, it kinda is.

  13. beetlejuice says:

Mike’s comment made me laugh. You must be a bitter dude. just because this guy doesn’t like the teaser doesn’t make him into “the kid who goes out of his way to try to find the tiniest flaws…”. was your star wars pussy hurt when you read his comment?

  14. Bitterbask says:

And for the very reason that the cross guard sticks out a bit, is why it’s not a great design. You’ll lose a hand…. A bit ironic but there it is

  15. Jvl says:

    And ain’ters gonna ain’t. 🙂

  16. Loren says:

yeah but that one is at 45 degree angle away from the owner, way more practical!
