The FOOTLOOSE Warehouse Scene Is Hilariously Awkward Without Music

Anger-dancing has been a highly respected form of therapy for decades. Wait, what? It hasn’t? Oh, well then it is still one of the most iconic scenes from Footloose, and inspired a generation of men to take ballet and gymnastics. It didn’t? Man, I am not on my game today. I wish I had some way to let out my frustrations. Well, even if Footloose didn’t flood dance schools with a generation of Kevin Bacon wannabes, it did cement the actor as a leading man for years afterward. The warehouse scene, though, has always been a strange piece of cinema. What starts as a young man wanting to let out anger at an oppressive town turns into a gymnastics routine, a bit of Tarzan swinging, and proves that Bacon’s character has superhuman leaping abilities. These can all be thankfully overlooked by feeling the intensity of Moving Pictures’ song “Never.” But what if someone took that song away?

A YouTube channel known as Mix Minus answered that question and it is every bit as awkward as one would imagine. In order to make up for the lack of music, Mix Minus has instead completely rebuilt the folly sound effects to create a realistic take on the scene. Tell me you didn’t laugh at the string of “Yeahs!” during the crazy leaping scene. I can’t even imagine the amount of time needed to get every grunt, huff, and footstep down perfectly. Mix Minus may only have two videos on their page at the moment, but I look forward to seeing what else they come up with.
