The Flash and The Arrow Go Head-to-Head in New Extended Trailer

Today’s the day, people! After months of listening to the writers and actors hype it up to no end, we’re finally going to see Oliver Queen and Barry Allen go head to head in the two-night crossover event, Flash vs Arrow. But, before we get into this topic, how about we show you what you came here to see: an all new extended trailer The CW released today:

What strikes us as fascinating here isn’t just the awesome battle that appears to be taking place between Oliver and Barry, but also how the residents of Central City appear to be reacting to the presence of The Arrow. It very much harkens back to the early days of Arrow where the Starling City citizens weren’t sure how to react to the bow wielding vigilante either. In fact, it does say something to the tone of the two series that in one, the city itself reacts harshly to the presence of a masked hero while the other has welcomed one with open arms.

Perhaps this is due to the nature of the two cities. Like pre-Batman Gotham, Starling was a corrupt town on the verge of being fed to the wolves before Oliver returned from Lian Yu, in other words, a place that was in desperate need of a masked man in a hood that was also weary of his intentions. On the flip side, the people of Central were in good shape for the most part. Crime didn’t seem to be at abnormal levels, and so when The Flash appeared, it was more of a “oh hey, cool” moment than one of “wow, how bad are we that this guy has to show up?”

An interesting dynamic indeed.

Flash vs Arrow begins tonight at 8/7c on The CW.
