The First Trailer and Poster Debut for Jon Stewart’s ROSEWATER Arrives

As our own Dan Casey said on the latest The Dan Cave, the summer movie season is over and it’s time we start looking to the “serious” fair of the fall as award season kicks into high gear. While Dan listed many great options worthy of your dollars, one that didn’t make his cut, but is totally worth a mention is Rosewater, the upcoming directorial debut of The Daily Show host Jon Stewart. You remember this one – it’s the movie that caused Stewart to take a leave of absence from the series for an entire summer in 2013, and thus indirectly lead the creation of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. Now, after months of hearing vague rumblings, we can offer up the first trailer and poster for the film:

Rosewater is based on the true story of “Tehran-born Bahari, a 42-year-old journalist with Canadian citizenship living in London. In June 2009, he returned to Iran to interview Mir-Hossein Moussavi, who was the prime challenger to controversial incumbent president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Bahari was soon arrested by Revolutionary Guard police, led by a man identifying himself only as ‘Rosewater,’ who proceeded to torture and interrogate the journalist over the next 118 days.”

If the trailer is any indication, we are certainly in for an excellent treat at the hands of Stewart. Although some early reviews have started trickling in, we’ll know more after the film makes its world premiere at this year’s Telluride Film Festival. For now, we simply can’t wait to watch this one. It also would be nice to see Stewart walk away with an Oscar or two while Colbert’s busy collecting all the Emmys.
