THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS Trailer Gets a Ridiculous MARIO KART Makeover

THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS Trailer Gets a Ridiculous MARIO KART Makeover

Much like the The Fast and the Furious franchise’s high stakes world of illegal street racing, the Mushroom Kingdom is all about family. And when a brother betrays his family members, it packs just as much of a punch if it’s Dom Toretto or Mario. At least, that’s the delightfully goofy premise behind The Warp Zone’s latest video, which is a painstakingly produced shot-for-shot remake of The Fate of the Furious trailer that replaces La Familia with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and a slew of other iconic Nintendo characters.

Considering that The Fast and Furious films have been getting progressively video gamier–especially with their physics–as they years have rolled on, it seems like a natural progression to incorporate the shell-slinging, blue-spark-drifting, Luigi-death-staring mayhem of Mario Kart into the mix. Produced in partnership with YouTube’s PistolShrimps, the trailer recut features a slew of Mario Kart-inspired gags, impressive special effects, and a Toad that is just as annoying as his video game counterpart. The Warp Zone gang might well have made the first video game movie I’d actually be excited to see. Or at least one that I’d be willing to see immediately following a midnight screening of The Fate of the Furious.
