The FAST AND FURIOUS 8 is Now THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS Shows New Trailer

The Fast & Furious film franchise is now ramping up to release the eighth (yes, eighth) movie in the series. Since we’ve been hearing about the films since the original in 2001, it’s not surprising to hear it has become the biggest Universal Pictures film franchise ever, with nearly $3.9 billion earned worldwide at the box office across the first seven films. The eighth film will likely push that mark significantly past the $4 billion mark soon after it hits theaters on April 14, 2017, but before then, all we have to look it as the new trailer teaser that was shared on Friday.

The clip is only 15 seconds long, but there’s still plenty of information we can glean from it. For one, it was revealed that the movie is now titled The Fate of the Furious. Speaking of fate, the video description tells us that Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) are on their honeymoon, and the rest of the crew have otherwise calmed down and settled into relatively normal lives. However, the mysterious Cipher—played by series newcomer Charlize Theron—somehow ropes Dom back into a world of mayhem, and from there, the team has to get back together and get out of whatever mess they’ve gotten themselves into this time.

The trailer also shows a couple of ways that The Fate of the Furious made movie history: Some scenes were shot in Cuba, making it one of the rare U.S. film productions to do so, and while filming in Iceland, the production produced the largest explosion in the country’s history.

That type of action is totally apparent in even just the teaser. The trailer itself will debut on Sunday, but in the meantime, check out the sneak peek above.
