THE EXORCIST to Shock Patrons of Halloween Horror Nights

Lots of cities have haunted houses or scare mazes that go up during the Halloween season, and many of them are truly horrific and frightening—no matter the budget. But, when you have the money of one of the biggest movie studios AND one of the biggest theme parks at your beck and call, things can get downright satanic. Enter: Universal‘s Halloween Horror Nights, which spares no expense when it comes to creating mazes of some of the biggest horror movies and TV shows. And this year they’re going to unleash an area based on one of the most shocking movies of all time, The Exorcist.

In 1973, William Friedkin‘s The Exorcist set the box office on fire and caused controversy with its depiction of an innocent young girl who is possessed by a vile, foul-mouthed demon. Many reports at the time had people fainting in the aisles, throwing up from being scandalized, and picketing and boycotting theaters. Religious groups claimed there were real demonic images in the very celluloid of the movie. Really, it’s not all that scary a movie if you ask me, but at the time, it was the scariest movie ever made.

What exactly Universal will put in their maze is unknown, but you can all but bet on lots and lots of Regan MacNeil doing demonic floating, spider-walking down the stairs, turning her head entirely around, and spewing pea soup on the unsuspecting visitors. It’s very unlikely the theme park version will defile a crucifix or spout expletives every few minutes, but we can’t say for sure.

Will the power of Christ compel you to go to the Exorcist maze? Let us know in the comments below!
