THE DEFENDERS Trailer Rallies the Team for Ass-Kicking and Wisecracks

It’s been a busy two years since Marvel kicked off its televisual universe with the first season of Daredevil. Since the studio broke ground on what has since become a successful, if not entirely well-received, Netflix empire with its introduction to Matt Murdock, we’ve enjoyed and endured premiere seasons of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and most recently (as well as most divisively) Iron Fist. Considering the roller coaster of reactions this legion of series has spawned, we might not know just how excited to get about the imminent team-up vehicle The Defenders, which has just dropped its first trailer.

Does this first look at the series evoke the high highs of Jessica Jones, which many consider the strongest outing of the four? Or is it too close (in form and in release date) to the Danny Rand debacle?

Keeping in mind that the almost universally beloved The Avengers succeeded lamented entries like The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 (hell, plenty of people weren’t even all that crazy about Thor), we shouldn’t be ready to cast out hope just yet. Though the team may have its weak links, there’s something intrinsically thrilling about watching these heroes from separate corners of the world… or, at least, of New York City… come together to complement one another’s fighting styles and ruffle one another’s feathers. As per the trailer, there’ll be plenty of that going on.

Of course, the most fun part of any superhero series: the villain. While we don’t get to see Sigourney Weaver do much in this trailer, the reminder that she’ll be lurking in the shadows (quite literally, it seems) is enough reason to up our optimism for a The Defenders show.

What do you think of the trailer? Let us know!
