The DARK SOULS Series Is Finished, and a New IP Is in the Works

The director of Dark Souls 3, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has confirmed that From Software is done with the Dark Souls series and is moving onto a new IP. Miyazaki has expressed his adamance to break free from the Souls series he felt locked into making. Looks like now he’s going to be making good on these desires, according to an interview with Taiwanese site GNN Gamer, which was translated on NeoGAF.

“Dark Souls 3 will be have several DLCs like previous games. But there is absolutely no plan right now for any sequels, spin-offs, or tie-ins,” he stated. “If a From Software developer come to me five years from now and begged, ‘please let me make another Dark Souls,’ then I will not rule out the possibility to let my subordinates start a new project,” he continued.

“So rather than make another sequel, I think it’s time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun.”

At least we know for sure there’s for sure Dark Souls 3 DLC on the way. Otherwise, this is bittersweet news for fans of the Souls games. Every title in the series has delivered a captivating experience, so the idea of the franchise being halted comes as an extreme bummer to many. On the bright side, however, we get to see From Software flex their muscles and try something new. Maybe we’ll get a Miyazaki fighting game. Wouldn’t that be dope?!

What genre would you like to see From Software take a crack at? Would you rather them just stick to making Souls games (of course you would)? Dash into the comments with your thoughts below.
