The Most Memorable Moments in Comic-Con History

It has begun. Thursday marks the official start of yet another San Diego Comic-Con International. On the cusp of another epic SDCC, I find myself bracing for the shock of seeing 130,000 people in varying degrees of cosplay flood into San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter by looking back at Comic-Cons past. Since it started in 1970, Comic-Con has been home to some of the most seminal and “you had to be there” moments in all of nerd culture. Whether it was a man in a crappy Spider-Man costume revealing himself to be Andrew Garfield or learning that Weezer was contractually obligated to play “El Scorcho” at The Walking Dead‘s after party, there are certain things that can only happen at Comic-Con. After all, there’s a reason thousands and thousands of people come here year after year. So, today on The Dan Cave, we’re looking back at some of the most memorable moments in San Diego Comic-Con history.

Obviously I missed a few, but if I were to list everything that ever happened, we would be here for hours and hours and hours. Let me know what your favorite Comic-Con memories are in the comments below. Then be sure to come by the Nerdist Conival at Petco Park during Comic-Con this year to play some Battleborn laser tag and say hello. Because there’s a new Comic-Con upon us and it’s time to make a whole new set of memorable moments for next year’s episode.
