Can Video Game Movies Replace Comic Book Movies?

Though there were plenty of superhero movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad to be found at San Diego Comic-Con, one cannot help but wonder if we’re approaching comic book movie fatigue. With the staggering box office success of comic book-inspired films, it’s only natural that Hollywood would begin looking down the road towards the next big thing. Their new target? Video games.

Metal Gear Solid, Hitman: Agent 47, The Last of Us, Ratchet & Clank, Assassin’s Creed, Warcraft, Deus Ex — the list of video game movies in development seems to be expanding every day. However, do they have a snowball’s chance in hell of displacing comic book movies from their pop cultural Iron Throne? Or is this going to be another flash in the pan? In order to answer this all-important question, I realized I had to take The Dan Cave in a bold new direction, so I assembled the first-ever Cave Council for a roundtable discussion to settle this once and for all.

Joining me on today’s episode are Sourcefed’s Steve Zaragoza, Sam Bashor, and Maude Garrett, three wise and learned councilmembers who assembled at the Nerdist Conival at Petco Park in order to render their verdicts on this burning question.

What do you guys think? What other issues would you like to see deliberated by The Cave Council? Let us know in the comments below.
