The CW Launches Free App, a LUKE CAGE Featurette, and More TV News

The CW’s full line-up of shows starts returning the first week of October, and since they made that new deal with Netflix, you won’t be able to stay caught up via Hulu anymore. But don’t worry, CW has you covered. Read about the network’s new app in today’s TV-Cap along with seeing a new poster for The Flash, getting some Outlander casting updates, viewing a snazzy logo makeover for DuckTales, and more.

Stay Current. Were you stressing about how to stay current on The CW’s large schedule? Well don’t fret—they’re releasing The CW App! The app, they say, will feature every show of theirs on mobile apps and also Roku, Chromecast, AirPlay, Apple TV, Xbox, and Amazon Fire TV. Like Hulu, there will be five episodes at a time available. And the best part? It’s free with no log-ins or subscriptions. The service should be available as of next week. [IGN]

It’s All New. The Scarlet Speedster changed the timeline in the season two finale of The Flash, and a poster for season three teases he’s facing “new destinies” and “new dangers.” Do you think this will be the season Barry learns to stop messing with time? The Flash speeds back to television on October 4. [CBR, Image: The CW]

Space and Scotland. Ready for some casting updates from both Netflix’s Lost in Space and Starz’s Outlander? Well, you’re gonna get them. Toby Stephens is on board to play John Robinson, the patriarch of the family, in the Lost in Space reboot. Over on Outlander, John Bell has been cast as Young Ian Murray, Jamie Fraser’s nephew, and Wil Johnson is set to play Claire’s friend and work colleague Joe Abernathy in season three. [Nerdist]

Meet Harlem’s Hero. Who is Luke Cage? If you’ve found yourself asking that question as the release of the new Marvel series approaches on September 30, this is the featurette for you. [Slashfilm]

Another Round. FX’s Atlanta and Better Things have just premiered their first seasons, but FX isn’t waiting around. They’ve renewed both comedies for 10-episode second seasons. What’s the fuss about? Read Matt’s review of Atlanta and Alicia’s review of Better Things and find out.

Revamped, Restyled. Disney XD is rebooting the DuckTales in 2017, and though I hope they don’t alter the theme song too much, I don’t mind a slight refresh of the logo. Oh My Disney revealed the new design and I only have one thing to say: woo ooo! [Image: Disney]

Like Father, Like Son. My favorite Stranger Things theory is the one discussing how Ben Schwartz’s Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Recreation is the son of Joe Keery’s Steve Harrington in Stranger Things. Schwartz laid out how it happened on a visit to The Late Late Show with James Corden and now, Steve and Jean-Ralphio have met in real life. It’s all documented in Schwartz’s Instagram feed, and it is glorious. [TVLine]

Not a Bloody Conversation. Ash vs Evil Dead comes back with its second season on October 2. The cast of the Starz show stopped by PaleyFest’s fall TV previews for a conversation moderated by our very own Alicia Lutes. Watch the panel at Hulu.

They’re Back! Both Gotham and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered their newest seasons this week. Gotham took a jump forward in time and found Gordon in a new place. Read Sydney’s recap of “Mad City: Better to Reign In Hell” here. On S.H.I.E.L.D., Robbie Reyes made his entrance in “The Ghost.” Read Joseph’s recap here.

What did you think of the season premieres of Gotham and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Shout it out in the comments.
