Welcome to our newest series, where we talk to comedians who shop at Meltdown Comics, the store that houses Nerdist Industries and Nerdist Theater!

At a recent event at NerdMelt, we asked a very excited Kumail Nanjiani about his latest buy at Meltdown Comics. He just found Asterix, a comic book series from the 60s.

  1. Adam says:

I love Asterix, i have quite a large collection here at home, and recently found out that one of my local book stores has started carrying the re-releases, annoyingly they are in the children’s section so I get a tad embarrassed when i go to look them over,
most of the other comics have their own section, why not put them there

  2. Phil says:

Classic, I grew up reading Asterix and @Bo Dixen is right. When Goscinny died and Uderzo took over the story telling, it was never as good. FWI, the second live action movie, Asterix chez Cleopatre was great. First and third, not so much.

  3. Ben K says:

I first read Asterix after watching an episode of Mr. Bean where he read Asterix to Teddy. Of course most of it was mumbly-jumply Bean-speak, but it was interesting enough. I had to go to a comic convention to actually locate a copy (pre-interwebs days) since none of the shops near me had anything by Goscinny.

  4. Bo Dixen Pedersen says:

Anything written by Rene Goscinny are pretty good.

Asterix after Goscinny not quite the same quality.

    Lucky Luke is another example.

  5. anna says:

just found asterix? le pauvre! 😉

  6. TheLoverly says:

We sold a lot of Asterix collections when I worked in a comic book store. The series has great legs, and I found the original French versions really helpful while I was trying to learn that language.

  7. Liam Hughes says:

I love Asterix I have every book. The films are rotten though.

  8. Adel says:

Asterix is not only a comic from the 60s, it’s also one of the best comic from Europe and it still is popular today.

  9. Lee says:

Kumail is the best. Chris should totally have him on the podcast.
