The Coffee Will Be With You Always with These Geektastic Coffee Tables

Everyone brings a different talent to the table, and if you have the kind of talent that Barry Shields does, you don’t just bring it, you bring the table too. Based out of Tennessee, the crafty Shields is an accomplished woodworker and restorer of incredible pieces of furniture. He also puts his skills to good use creating one of a kind, totally geeky, coffee tables as the internet discovered this week. While many of his pieces are more traditional – entertainment centers, shelving, and refurbished coffee tables from an antique store – these three are really something special.

Shields took inspiration from Star Wars and Star Trek to create the X-Wing coffee table, the Enterprise coffee table, and a Klingon Bird of Prey coffee table. Each ship is built from multiple types of wood including ash, poplar and cherry. They took months for Shields to craft, and each is an investment piece for a lucky film fan who wants something truly unique for their living room. The ships are bisected by a plate of glass that serves as the actual coffee table, and with their base pieces, they weigh close to 100 lbs. Regardless of whether you can afford to get one for yourself, they are absolutely gorgeous to ogle on the web.

I definitely wouldn’t mind owning a little homage to Star Wars for my living room, but for the moment, I’m just going to drool over them here. You can check out more of Shield’s creations on his website or his Facebook page where he details what went into crafting these truly awesome resting spots for your morning coffee.
