It was 25 years ago today, on April 8th, 1990, that David Lynch and Mark Frost’s seminal television series Twin Peaks premiered on ABC, and became an instant pop culture phenomenon. But on what should be a day of nostalgic celebration of the show and its legacy, it has instead became a bittersweet one, as earlier this week, series co-creator David Lynch officially pulled out of returning to direct the long-awaited series revival, which was announced by cable network Showtime for premiere in 2016.

No one is exactly sure what happened — Lynch said that the network didn’t offer him enough money for the production, but it’s hard to imagine that the points of the deal weren’t hammered out before the big announcement was made last fall. Regardless, Twin Peaks 2016 is now without its most famous co-creator, and therefore its future is very much in doubt, breaking the heart’s of millions of fans everywhere. Almost right away, a Save Twin Peaks petition began online, and within two days is already nearing 25,000 signatures.

Now members of the original cast of Twin Peaks, almost all of whom were slated to return, have made an Official Twin Peaks Cast Facebook page and a video showing support for the beloved director and friend David Lynch. They are essentially letting Showtime know that they better work things out with Lynch….or they aren’t coming back on board.

Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer), Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne), Madchen Amick (Shelly Johnson), Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs), Wendy Robie (Nadine Hurley), Peggy Lipton (Norma Jennings), Al Strobel (The One-Armed Man), Gary Hershberger (Mike Nelson), Catherine Coulson (The Log Lady), and David Lynch’s daughter Jennifer (who wrote The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer) all contributed to the video. Notably absent is Kyle MacLachlan, who singed on the dotted line with Showtime to return in January, but the fact that he’s now signed means he might not be able to talk for legal reasons.
