The Bundys Could Return in a MARRIED… WITH CHILDREN Spin-Off

Before there was Family Guy, before there were The Simpsons, the edgy family comedy that put Fox on the map in a big way was Married… With Children. Following the journey of the Bundys, mainly the father Al, the series was a huge hit with audiences because hidden within its crass exterior was a message about the lie that existed regarding the “typical suburban family.” The Bundy’s weren’t good people, but they were a family, and it was fascinating for people to watch their lives play out on screen. Now, over 20 years later, in an age where much of the series’ humor would feel tame, Sony’s looking to bring some of the family back to the airwaves.

According to E!, Sony, the producing company of the sitcom, is currently pitching the idea of creating a spin-off focused on the adulthood adventures of Bud Bundy to various networks.

Beyond that single mission statement, nothing else is known. It’s unclear if Sony’s courting broadcast or cable networks, whether or not they want to do the series as a multi-cam or single-cam program, and most importantly, who the studio has courted for a return. Considering Ed O’Neill’s current on-going work for Modern Family, Sagal’s exponentially growing slate of post-Sons of Anarchy projects, and Applegate consistently active film and TV career, pulling anyone away from where they are to return to the world that made them famous is harder than one might think.

If the series is going to make a comeback, it’s a safe bet it won’t be happening within the next year (assuming Sony’s going after one of the big four broadcast networks) as it’s not even certain a script is written. The report also makes no mention of whether or not original series co-creator Michael G. Moye is involved (the other co-creator, Ron Leavitt, passed away in 2008).

  1. Tekilla says:

OF course YES!!!!!!! I want big spin off and 10 new series minimum!

  2. Will they be airbrushing the show, too?

  3. There is a very good reason why Ed O’Neill, Kadey Sagal and less so Christina Applegate’s have acting successful careers and David Faustino does not. The guy has been desperately trying to get back into acting for years and failed miserably. They each should get together and allow David Faustino to “guest” star on an episode of their shows on the condition he never contact them ever again.

  4. I don’t know that any modern sitcom could match the charm (or lack thereof) of the original series.
Without Al and Peg it’s rather pointless…get Griff  and Bob Rooney. 😀

  5. David says:

There are few things in life I’d like more than to see the Bundys back on TV

  6. Josh Miller says:

This would be a dream come true.

  7. Neil Andersen says:

Yes, yes, YES! Married With Children was almost a religion to me. I still enjoy watching the same episodes I have seen several times!

  8. ClasikRok says:

I’d like to see a reunion movie first, and if that works, and it merits a new series, so be it. But overall, I am not unopposed to the idea.

  9. Roseann says:

    Oh hell yeah!

  10. Matt Munro says:

    Awesome to have them back

  11. Tucker says:

Instead of bringing back the show, they should just make a MWC feature movie with the original cast.

  12. billy says:

    Yea definitely

  13. Azza Barbone says:

Spin off? Id like to see a whole new season plz

  14. Married… With Children is still one of my all time favorite shows.  The world of TV spinoffs is a tricky one though.  If they do it, hopefully they do it justice.

  15. TechnoSpice says:

I’d love a spinoff, but they should find a new family.

  16. Hell yeah!!! I love married with children,  I watched as a kid in the 90s and bought the whole show on DVD, I’d definitely watch … religiously lol

  17. john locke says:

    I will watch every epsodoe

  18. Jeff Smith says:

Wasn’t Ron Leavitt the guy who played the uniformed cop always hanging around the squad room and sucking up to Barney Miller? Same name, don’t know if it’s the same guy.

  19. Luanne says:

I would watch the hell out of this.  Can I get a Whoa Bundy?!?

  20. I thought it was called ‘Modern Family?’

  21. Todd b says:

Only If they get Al, Peggy, and Kelly, Darcey etc. to show up every now and then

  22. I hear a netflix original.

  23. David says:

So basically what we would likely get is a spin-off about Bud and his current family woes?  I’d take it if they could get the other originals to reprise their roles in cameo capacity.

  24. Arysta says:

I’d be excited if it was a spin-off featuring Kelly, but Bud? That would be like making a Meg spin-off of Family Guy.

  25. jm5150 says:

    sure
