After yesterday’s barrage of announcements from Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony, it was Nintendo’s turn to step up to the plate with this morning’s E3 Direct event. While many people were expecting to hear about Nintendo’s rumored new console, the mysterious Nintendo NX, we were instead treated to a vast array of games which will be releasing in 2015. (And, no, the open-world Legend of Zelda wasn’t one of them.)Â The approximately hour-long livestream event immediately made it weird with off-putting yet endearing interstitials featuring Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime, Satoru Iwata, and Shigeru Miyamoto as puppets. You know, because Nintendo.
Then, once our bodies were good and Reggie, it was off to the races with the announcement of Star Fox Zero, a game that has been long-awaited by gamers yearning to get back in the cockpit with Corneria’s finest anthropomorphic pilots. What followed was a cavalcade of titles ranging from The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes to Super Mario Maker to Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam and beyond. Nerdist gaming editor Malik Forte were on hand to highlight what Nintendo did right and the most exciting of the announcements in a special video report.
And in case you missed it, here are few choice trailers to get your blood flowing.
Star Fox Zero
Fire Emblem Fates
