After months of guest hosts filling in, The Late Late Show With James Corden finally premiered last night. James Corden (who may be most well-known in the states for his guest appearances on Doctor Who) proved to be more than game for the challenge. The new host gave off an old-school variety show vibe, opting for skits and songs rather than an opening monologue. Oh yeah, did we mention Reggie Watts features as The Late Late Showâs band leader? Dream team, for sure. Corden is incredibly charming (that accent does help) and I canât wait to see what sort of antics he gets into at his new gig.
To kick off things with a bang, the show had a great line-up of star-studded guests to mark the occasion. Mila Kunis stopped by along with the always super amazing Tom Hanks. Things started off with the usual late night chatter, but it was when Hanks teamed up with Corden that things went to eleven. Situated in front of a blue screen, the pair ran through a reenactment of Hanksâ icon film roles at a blistering pace. Clocking in at six minutes, the skit ran the gamut from his early days in Bachelor Party to modern classics like the Toy Story films.
We reminisced about the best crime-fighting duo since Batman and Robin (you know it’s true)â¦
…to being stranded with Wilsonâ¦
…to meeting Meg Ryan (James Corden in a FAB wig!) at the top of the Space Needle.
My personal favorite? Hanks and Corden singing âShimmy Shimmy Cocoa Popâ in that famous scene from Big. Complete with handshakes and varsity jackets.
The best, right? If this is only the first episode of The Late Late Show, I canât wait to see what other fun tricks Corden gets up to with his guests.
