The Beatles’ YELLOW SUBMARINE Gets a 50th Anniversary Comic Book Adaptation

As of 2018, it will have been 50 years since The Beatles released their iconic animated movie Yellow Submarine, which has to be the trippiest film in music history. It has characters and settings like the Dreadful Flying Glove, the Sea of Nothing, a submarine on a pyramid, and so much other goofy nonsense that’s a lot of psychedelic fun. If any music movie has the right to be adapted into a comic book, due both to its aesthetics and its historical importance, Yellow Submarine is the one. So, that’s exactly what’s going to happen: For the movie’s 50th anniversary, incoming MAD Magazine editor Bill Morrison is writing and illustrating an adaptation of the film for Titan Comics (via Rolling Stone).

“We’re thrilled to be publishing The Beatles: Yellow Submarine for the 50th anniversary of this fantastic movie,” Chris Teather, publishing director at Titan Comics, told The Hollywood Reporter. “We can’t wait for Beatles fans to experience this official adaptation.”

There’s not much information about the book at the moment, but The Hollywood Reporter called the project a “decades-held dream” for Morrison, so you know a lot of passion will be injected. Aside from a few pages that have been shared in advance, we also have the source material, so we know that it ought to be bright and colorful and fun.

It’s also worth noting that Titan Comics’ collectibles division, Titan Merchandise, is releasing a set of vinyl figures based on the movie. The “All Together Now” collection will feature two versions of The Beatles band members and a bunch of other characters from the movie, and it looks pretty sweet:
