The 5 Most Intentionally Funny Videos This Week 1/17

It seems to have been decided by the Twitter-sphere that Ricky Gervais “lobbed it over the plate” with his hosting duties at this year’s Golden Globes. If it is truly surprising to you that Gervais has made network brass happy by scaling back on the roasting, then you can “stick it to the man” by watching this week’s 5 Most Intentionally Funny Videos that promise and subsequently deliver on being really funny. “The man” in this scenario is not NBC or Gervais, but the perceived sense of humor of 18-49-year-olds.

1. Duncan Trussell pulls off informing the world of how unappreciated comedians performing at festivals are AND making the most hilarious use of a scene from Downfall.

2. Kumail Nanjiani of Franklin & Bash on TNT,  the Indoor Kids of the Nerdist family of podcasts, and co-host of NerdMelt’s Meltdown Show, shows off another talent of his in this video at Nick Thune’s Big Talk Show: authentic ethnic cooking.

3. Beck Benit and Nick Rutherford normally people watch at the beach for their funny web series Theatre of Life, but they have pulled off an even greater feat by going to Vegas to watch David Copperfield disappear right in front of them.

4. Comedy Central has an exciting slate coming up this year including their newest sketch series, Key & Peele, as evidenced by this sketch where President Obama has a translator for his anger.

5. Stop apologizing to everyone that you like and go to see Wes Anderson’s next movie. From the trailer, Moonrise Kingdom isn’t a movie for just hipsters.

  1. Tom Steele says:

Am I the only one who never wants to see another Downfall parody, no matter how good, again?

  2. Bucky says:

I can’t watch the trailer for any Anderson movie without growing goosebumps and a serious awe-boner. This is going to be FUCKING EXQUISITE.

  3. Sara says:

It’s a baseball reference. The batter is standing at home plate. A pitcher who “lobs” the ball is sending a slow, easy-to-hit pitch. Basically Jake is saying that Gervais went with the easy jokes/targets this time around.

  4. logiwan says:

please explain… is “lobbing it over the plate” a good or bad thing?

i’m english and i presume this is a sports reference but i don’t know of any sports we play involving a plate, although i’m not terribly au fait with english sport, let alone american.

    thanks in advance.
