The 3 Wildest WESTWORLD Theories So Far!

We’re only two episodes into HBO’s Westworld, and we don’t want to leave. Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, and J.J. Abrams‘ reboot of the classic Michael Crichton film already has us hooked; and there’s nothing we love more than solving the mysteries of a new show. Today’s Nerdist News is peeling back the artificial flesh and playing the deeper game with the Man in Black!

There are potential spoilers ahead, if our admittedly wild theories turn out to be true. But you may soon be a believer, thanks to Nerdist News host and android rights activist, Jessica Chobot. And it all starts with Ed Harris‘ Man in Black, who has already proven himself to be one of the most vile villains on TV. We don’t know even know his real name yet…or do we?

Some sharp-eyed fans have noted that the scenes with Jimmi Simpson’s reluctant visitor, William, may be more than they initially appeared. Is Westworld‘s unchanging western setting being used to hide flashback scenes that will chronicle William’s transformation into the Man in Black?

Then there’s Dolores, the oldest “host” in the park. The first episode hinted that Dolores may be slowly awakening to the nature of her existence. But what if she’s simply been playing along with the illusion far longer than anyone realized? Dolores could be the rare artificial intelligence who is smart enough to hide from even the rigorous tests of her creators. How crazy is that?

Finally, there’s a theory about the flies in Westworld. You have to admit, it’s strange that such a tightly controlled environment would feature the little pests. But perhaps that’s the point. Even the flies may have a deeper purpose on the show, as an early warning system for the theme park’s creative team.

We want to offer a very special thanks to HP for sponsoring today’s Nerdist News with their crazy-cool Omen X gaming tower. Emphasis on the “cool”, cause this thing’s got best-in-it’s-class cooling, so it can keep up with the most hardcore games and let you perform at top-level. It’s also endlessly customizable and upgradeable, so if you’re a DIY fiend you can hack the Omen to the max while cherishing it’s insane, futuristic floating-cube look. Thanks HP!
