THE 100 Recap: Another One Bites the Dust in ‘Demons’

Attention, The 100 fans: the below recap has major spoilers for Thursday’s new episode, “Demons.” If you haven’t watched and afraid of spoilers, you should probably turn away now. Or at least don’t get mad at us if you learn too much!

It might be time for Murphy to hand over his title as the cockroach of The 100 to the last Mountain Man, Carl Emerson. Tonight’s episode, “Demons,” saw Emerson’s return for revenge in a major way, but seeing how it all ended, maybe Murphy should keep his hard-earned title. And let’s take a moment to thank The 100 writers for turning this week’s episode into a legit horror-filled hour. This is going to give me nightmares for weeks. Let’s recap the insanity, shall we?

In Polis, Murphy was shocked to see Emori alive and well in the streets, acting like any old market goer—and she was impressed to see him by the new Heda’s side. Naturally, she wanted in if Murphy was conning Commander Ontari. The duo reunited in a major way in down in the Flamekeeper room (the flame was running pretty hot, if you know what I mean and you 100% definitely do), which seems a bit blasphemous if Emori was as religious as she seems. But his worry for her was pretty real, as he tried to warn her to leave Polis—it wasn’t safe for her there. He also confided in her all about Ontari and how she doesn’t have the Flame and what Ontari wants from him. It was clear that Murphy needed someone to confide in after all this time of being on his own in Polis with no allies. (Hardly feels like a good idea on this series, though.)

Meanwhile, on their way back to Arkadia, the rebels all combined their knowledge of Becca, ALIE, ALIE 2, and the Nightbloods now that Raven was back on their side after learning everything she could from the City of Light and ALIE. The team tried to figure out their next move, but their pow wow was paused when they arrived at Arkadia and saw the abandoned camp. They also lost contact with Miller, Bryan, and Harper who were keeping watch on Arkadia before they got there. Their mission was to gather supplies and for Octavia to get Lincoln’s sketchbook to figure out where to find Luna, knowing that putting ALIE 2 into her was their only shot at stopping ALIE. Octavia fell apart a bit when she returned to Lincoln’s room, and while Jasper tried to help her and told her it was okay to lose it a little, she said, “A warrior doesn’t mourn the dead until the war is over.” Classic Octavia. Once she found the book, she was ready to go … until a Grounder knocked her and Jasper out.

Sinclair, Raven, Clarke, and Monty worked on ALIE 2 to try and figure out the Latin keywords that activated it without having it go inside a human host. But it wouldn’t let them access its code without going inside someone, so without a Nightblood, it was back to Plan A: find Luna. But then the Grounder that already took out Miller, Bryan, Harper, Octavia, and Jasper attacked Clarke and Monty. Clarke managed to take off his mask, but was shocked to see it was none other that Carl Emerson, the last Mountain Man—I knew she’d regret keeping him alive!

Clarke and Bellamy went on a rampage through Arkadia trying find their missing friends, but Sinclair and Raven got locked inside the hangar bay with Emerson. He ended up killing Sinclair right in front of Raven (as if Raven hasn’t suffered enough already) and taking her hostage. Clarke and Bellamy found Sinclair’s body, and figured out where Emerson was keeping all their friends: the airlock. Clarke offered herself in exchange for all her friends, knowing Emerson wanted revenge on her for all she’s done to him. But Bellamy obviously wouldn’t let her get herself killed for nothing, and decided for Clarke that they’d work together to distract and kill Emerson.

Emerson knew that Bellamy was working with Clarke, though, so he threatened Octavia’s life until Bellamy gave himself up, too—so much for that plan. Once Bellamy was handcuffed inside the airlock with the rest of their team, Emerson had Clarke get down on her knees while he held her at gunpoint. But it turns out he didn’t want to just kill Clarke… he wanted her to watch as he killed all her friends right in front of her by depleting the oxygen in the airlock until they all suffocated. She killed all his friends and family and loved ones, so in his eyes, it was the perfect revenge. But Clarke had one last trick up her sleeve while Emerson tried to choke her: she activated ALIE 2 and put it right on his neck, knowing it would burrow into him and go into his brain, instantly killing him since he wasn’t a Nightblood. In the end, Lexa’s philosophy won out: Blood must have blood. It was just a delayed punishment. This particular cockroach could only avoid death for so long.

Outside Arkadia, Bellamy brought Lincoln’s body to Octavia so she could finally grieve properly. But the heartbreak she felt affected everyone around her: They’ve all lost so much and hardly take the time to honor their losses. Watching Raven then give Sinclair the Skaikru farewell as they all burned the two bodies was a much-needed moment of grief, especially before they continued on their mission. But Octavia couldn’t bear it for too long and left the funeral early, while Bellamy looked on in misery knowing most—if not all—of this was his fault. At this point, it doesn’t look like Octavia has it in her to forgive her brother for what’s happened to Lincoln. Can time heal their wounds? Let’s hope so. Also, I’m going to need a little time before The 100 kills off yet another character. I mean, Sinclair?! Seriously?! Is this the deadliest season of The 100 yet? Don’t answer that—we all know.

After the funeral, Raven and Monty told everyone they were going to stay behind in Arkadia to access ALIE’s remaining code in the Ark mainframe. They wanted to see if they could find a backdoor into the code, which would help take her down once Luna had ALIE 2 inside her. Miller, Bryan, and Harper opted to stay behind to keep them safe. After saying their goodbyes, Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia, and Jasper loaded back into the rover and set out to find Luna with ALIE 2. But they need to move fast…

Because back in Polis, Jaha managed to sneak into the throne room and revealed to Ontari he knew her to be a false commander. But how? Turns out, Emori was chipped the whole time Murphy was with her in the Flamekeeper room, so everything he told Emori, Jaha could hear. Ontari wanted to kill Murphy for betraying her to Emori, but Jaha managed to convince her to keep Murphy alive since he’d be useful down the road. Instead, Ontari had Murphy arrested. With our favorite cockroach gone, Jaha was able to convince Ontari to swallow a chip herself, saying it was Becca Pramheda’s true legacy. Jaha, you sneaky snake. Without anyone to guide her otherwise, Ontari ate the chip, and ALIE was able to begin her assault on Polis.
