That E3 SPIDER-MAN Trailer Featured Actual Gameplay

At E3, Sony wowed comics and gaming fans with the first trailer for Spider-Man, a new Playstation 4 title that is being developed by Insomniac Games, the studio behind Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive. Many fans assumed that what we saw were simply cut scenes and cinematics. But Insomniac has spoken up to confirm that the trailer really included gameplay from Spider-Man.

Via Push Square, Insomniac’s official twitter account posted the following message:

Insomniac later posted a follow up message to clarify that it was gameplay footage. If that’s the case, this has the potential to be the best-looking Spider-Man game to-date. The trailer features a few scenes similar to those that we’ve seen in earlier Spidey games, including Spider-Man’s leap off of a rooftop and the Wall-Crawler taking down criminals. It’s easy to see the gameplay elements of those sequences, but there are also parts that appear to be QTEs or cut scenes, including Spider-Man leaping from a crashing car in slow motion. The criminals in this video also appear to be the henchmen of Mr. Negative, a relatively new addition to Spidey’s rogue’s gallery.

There’s no date currently announced for Spider-Man, which is based on the comics instead of the films. That means that Sony may not feel obligated to rush the game in order to coincide with next summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, and that would be fine with us, since we’d rather have a great Spider-Man game than one that was rushed out of development.
