Tesla’s Latest Distraction Is a $1,500 Surfboard You Can’t Buy

Elon Musk‘s many companies are now famous for offering products that don’t exact fit with the rest of said companies’ output (though they do bring in an underground tunnel full of cash). The Boring Company sells hats and maybe-illegal flamethrowers to rake in literally millions, while SpaceX sells a “Starman” mug to celebrate its launch of the only extraterrestrial car to date, and Tesla sells a play luxury car for children. And the latest odd-but-you-know-you-still-want-it-to-distract-you-from-your-Model-3-that-still-hasn’t-arrived is a Tesla…surfboard.

If you feel like hanging 10 after riding in your Model X, well, you can’t. These surfboards sold out almost instantly, thereby saving you the conversation where you explained how you spent $1,500 on a promotional surfboard. The boards were extremely limited—only 200 made to order—but they did at least seem worth the cash. Every board was either in a stylish black or red, sported the Tesla logo, and was reinforced with the same kind of carbon fiber that goes into SpaceX’s rockets.

Also on the show this week, SpaceX tries and fails yet again to save $6,000,000 after giving Mr. Steven a much larger…net, Sir Richard Branson and his Virgins set a new record for speed, and Dan and I have a very special announcement regarding the future of the show…

What do you think of this week’s biggest stories? What would you like to see us explore on the next Muskwatch? Let us know in the comments below.
